Cognizant Technology Solutions said that its Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal has reached a settlement in the non-compete lawsuit filed by his former employer, Wipro. The settlement totaled USD 5,05,087 (about Rs 4 crore), resolves all pending disputes between Dalal and Wipro.
This was achieved without any admission of liability from either party. This amount covers Dalal’s settlement payment to Wipro as well as reimbursement of his legal fees.
Dalal, who left Wipro in November 2023 and joined Cognizant in December 2023, had been embroiled in a more than seven-month-long legal battle. Wipro alleged that Dalal breached non-compete and confidentiality obligations stipulated in his compensation agreements by moving to Cognizant.
In a statement, Dalal expressed gratitude for his journey with Wipro and conveyed his eagerness to focus on his role at Cognizant, aiming to drive the company’s growth and deliver value to clients, employees, and shareholders.
“I am grateful for my journey with Wipro and I am pleased to have this matter behind me. I’m looking forward to continuing to drive Cognizant’s growth agenda while delivering value to our clients, employees, and shareholders,” said Dalal.
In a related development, a similar lawsuit filed by Wipro against former senior executive Mohd Haque, who also joined Cognizant, has been settled. Haque had faced allegations of possessing confidential information, having allegedly uploaded and emailed sensitive files from his personal Gmail account.
