India needs a high quality of management education to be able to tap into the potential of Industry. BW Businessworld organised BW Education- Future of Management Education Conclave which was attended by many educationalists and academicians from the country’s esteemed management and business schools.
Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director, IIM Indore in his keynote session said that there certain critical skills that are going to required by the leaders of tomorrow. These skills are critical thinking, sense-making, and negotiation. These skills will lead to a shift in the Leadership paradigm.
He further added, “What I have experienced as an institute is that we create knowledge, we disseminate knowledge but we do not practice knowledge. And therefore one of the things that we have decided to do is to practice what we preach.”
He stressed the difference between data and information. The information should always be accurate, timely and complete, unlike data. As business institutions, they have to give people information which is accurate, relevant and timely.
IIM-Indore hosts a rural engagement program where the students interact with the villagers and offer solutions for their problems.
Rai expressed the importance of ethics in leaders and businesses. He said, “We as Business schools try to moral police our students, the future is not going to
allow us to do that. We have to inculcate them to do the right thing by setting an example ourselves”.
He strongly believed that the past may have belonged to those leaders and institutions who do things well but the future belongs to the ones who will do things right.
