This prestigious event in public administration took place on September 29, 2024, at the renowned India Habitat Centre in New Delhi. More than just a traditional award ceremony, this gathering aimed to celebrate the organisation’s significant achievements while reinforcing its foundational mission of driving innovation and research.
The Honour of Ashoka Award is a distinguished accolade given to a select group of bureaucrats and senior policymakers who have made exceptional contributions to governance, law, and order. These honorees were carefully chosen for their outstanding service and exemplary leadership qualities, providing inspiration to probationary officials and young aspirants preparing for the Union Public Service Commission examinations.
The Charles Walters Council, registered as a Section 8 company under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has been dedicated to fostering creativity and research among youth. The organisation champions a scientific approach, steering India toward a future characterised by scientific advancements. The Council’s focus areas include artificial intelligence, emotional intelligence, robotics, and neuro-linguistics, offering practical guidance to the youth, from patent filing to nurturing success as budding scientists.
At the forefront of this visionary initiative is Abhishek Pandey, a distinguished scholar with master’s degrees in chemistry and English. His extensive experience spans various aspects of education and academia, from training to curriculum development based on innovative teaching methods. Pandey’s pioneering initiatives have garnered national acclaim, including recognition from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other notable figures, such as the Honourable Law Minister and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His efforts to create engaging classroom environments that promote psychological well-being have solidified his standing as a leader in education. Notably, his initiative to establish the Honour of Ashoka Award attracted significant attention, including from India’s Defence Minister.
Pandey’s proposals for the Indian Teaching Services have received accolades from the Honourable Education Minister of India, while his initiatives for societal upliftment—such as blood donation drives, health camps, and food banks—have been acknowledged by the Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. His recent program to provide self-defence training for girls across 13 states has also been recognized by the Honourable Home Minister of India.
The 2024 Honour of Ashoka Award ceremony promised to be a magnificent event, featuring two esteemed chief guests: His Excellency Shri Shekhar Dutt (Retd IAS), former Deputy National Security Advisor, Defence Secretary, and Governor of Chhattisgarh, alongside Honourable General Deepak Kapoor, former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian Army. The event will be presided over by His Lordship Mr. Justice BP Singh, former Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and Judge of the Supreme Court of India, ensuring the ceremony’s significance. Additionally, the presence of distinguished guests such as Dr. Rajkumar Ranjan, former Minister of State for Education and External Affairs, will elevate the event's stature.
The list of honorees included some of the country’s most respected bureaucrats and policymakers. Among them were IAS officers like Arvind Mayaram, Deepak Singhal, Harshal Pancholi, Ritu Suhas, Heera Lal, Pulkit Kare, Anuj Chandak, Neha Prakash, Anil Sinha, Anup Garg, Dr. Sanjeev Ranjan, Kumar Vineet, Abhinav Siwach, Pravimal Abhishek, Nikhil Nirmal, Sanjay Mishra, Shakil Ahmed, Pranjal Yadav, G. Asok, Sridhar Vidyamari, and Vasu Jain, along with IPS officers like Harjit Sandhu, Rajinder Pal Singh, P.
