Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is reportedly prepping up to develop a large data centre with state-owned telecom major Bharat Sanchar Nigam, the initiative is to enhance the telecom’s 4G deployment, according to a media report on Wednesday.
The new centre will be raised in the four regions of the country as a part of TCS and BSNL’s substantial deal of Rs 15,000 crore, the report added.
The collaboration also involves the role of Tata Group’s IT services arm along with the government’s Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), which will make 38 deployments, in total, of varying capacities in BSNL premises across all telecom circles of the telco.
The project is focused on making BSNL the first indigenous network solutions provider. While reports said the deployment is a complex process with two large data centres in each of the four zones, PR (for the primary server) and DR (for the disaster recovery server). Both companies have not officially confirmed on this matter.
Additionally, reports suggested that in each telecom circle, 30 data centres will be deployed depending on the load requirements of that circle. The deployment plan is for 38 centres in total and at present the work is focused on hardware supplies to complete the implementation by June.
Last year, TCS’s stock exchange filing disclosed the company in collaboration with ITI, obtained a prepayment order worth Rs 19,000 crore from BSNL for the establishment of 1,00,000 4G sites. ITI is responsible for fulfilling approximately 20 per cent of this order, with most of the remaining portion falling under TCS's responsibility.
