Elon Musk on Wednesday said that he is deferring the relaunch of blue checkmark subscription to 29 November 2022.
The rollout of blue checkmark subscription has been postponed to ensure that it is “rock solid”, according to Musk.
“Punting relaunch of Blue Verified to November 29th to make sure that it is rock solid,” he tweeted. Last week, he had said that revamped Blue subscription would be launched by the end of this week.
Last week, Musk’s USD 8 per month blue checkmark subscription unleashed a slew of impostor accounts on Friday. The tweets from some of impostor blue checkmark accounts on the social media platform severely impacted the trading prices of companies on the NYSE, shaving billions of dollars in market caps.
Twitter had to halt the rollout of Twitter Blue subscription to check the surge in fake accounts on the platform.
Elaborating on the blue checkmark plan, Musk said all unpaid legacy blue checkmarks will be removed in a few months.
Additionally, Twitter will not allow blue checkmark verified users to change their name until it is confirmed by the platform to meet “terms of service”.
