Applied Materials India has collaborated with the Tamil Nadu Government to establish an advanced Center of Excellence (CoE) in Chennai. The CoE will be centered on AI-enabled technology development will focus on semiconductor manufacturing and equipment.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for this collaboration was signed in San Francisco, with Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M K Stalin and Dr Prabu Raja, President of the Semiconductor Products Group at Applied Materials, present at the ceremony.
As part of the collaboration, Applied Materials intends to increase its workforce in Tamil Nadu, with plans to create over 500 technical jobs in the coming years. The initiative will also strengthen existing partnerships between Applied Materials and academic institutions in the state, advancing research in AI, machine learning and data science specifically for the semiconductor equipment sector.
“Investment in key sectors such as advanced electronics and semiconductors will help us achieve the USD 1 trillion economy goal by 2030. We want to make Tamil Nadu the most advanced knowledge and innovation hub in South Asia,” said M K Stalin.
