Tech major Apple is expected to employ over 5,00,000 people in India. This recruitment is anticipated through its vendors and aims to boost the working opportunities in the country, according to a media report on Monday.
Apple has not officially confirmed this matter. However, the tech major has plans to upscale its Indian production by USD 40 billion in the upcoming 4 to 5 years. Considering this initiative, the reported employment drive cannot be sidelined.
At present, Apple's vendors and suppliers play a substantial role in employing 1.5 lakh people in India. Tata Electronics, one of the vendors of the iPhone maker, is the biggest job generator, running two plants of the company.
The iPhone maker also achieved the highest revenues in the Indian market in 2023, a first led by the company since its inception.
Recently, the company surpassed 10 million shipments and bagged the top position in revenue in a calendar year for the first time.
In the fiscal year 2023-2024, the export value of Apple's iPhones from India witnessed a significant increase, reaching USD 12.1 billion. This surge in exports marks a remarkable growth of almost 100 per cent compared to the previous fiscal year, where the export value stood at USD 6.27 billion in 2022-2023.
