Deepfakes are again in talks in the United States of America as news anchors are being targeted by scammers. A Facebook video with thousands of views showing American Journalist Wolf Blitzer and host Gayle King is the latest in a rash of deepfakes.
In the video, CNN's Blitzer was seen in a diabetes drug hawk while the news channel CBS Mornings host King was found endorsing a weight loss product. Both videos are not real and misleading, according to media reports.
A similar incident was registered in recent months as well which targeted Fox News personality Jesse Watters, CBC host Ian Hanomansing and BBC stars Matthew Amroliwala and Sally Bundock.
Most journalists have highlighted the fake posts through their personal social media account.
Billionaire Elon Musk has also fallen prey to deepfakes. The X chief’s face has been used in manipulated videos with many promising investment schemes and unapproved products.
Meta has reportedly banned the deepfakes on its platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, since early 2020.
