Semiconductor equipment and services provider Lam Research has opened its new engineering centre in Bengaluru. This will be its third facility in Karnataka’s capital city.
The new facility is being touted as Lam Research’s most advanced centre in India, which will focus on research and development (R&D), engineering and testing of wafer fabrication hardware and software used in the creation of next-generation DRAM, NAND and logic technologies.
Lam Research’s ‘India Center for Engineering’ will be one of the five cutting-edge R&D labs world-wide working to drive the next generation of semiconductor technologies.
In a statement, Tim Archer, president and CEO of Lam Research said, “This important facility is an expansion of Lam's R&D operations and will play a critical role in the creation of new technologies needed in a time of rising semiconductor manufacturing complexity. It enables us to capitalise on the tremendous pool of technical talent in India as we strive to solve our customers' biggest challenges.”
Bengaluru hosts two other Lam Research facilities that largely focus on software and hardware engineering and provide support to the company’s global manufacturing operations.
The new facility will see engineers work on various disciplines including plasma, materials science, artificial intelligence and software controls. The lab will also feature virtual reality facilities to connect with other engineers around the globe.
The US-based company opened its first facility in India two decades ago. Since then, its operations in the country have played a key role in delivering innovations globally.
