Wipro has introduced a new policy that ties employees’ leave entitlements directly to their attendance at the office. Effective 2 September, the company has mandated that employees must be physically present in the office at least three days a week, as per media reports.
Failure to meet the new requirement will result in the deduction of leave days corresponding to the days missed.
The directive was communicated through an email sent to employees, which also instructed the human resources team to revoke any previously granted work-from-home (WFH) approvals. According to the email, any deviation from the mandated office attendance will lead to the system automatically deducting leave days for each missed office day.
This policy applies to select projects within the company and does not affect all employees uniformly. The new approach is part of a broader trend among Indian IT firms, pointing to a move towards reinforcing office attendance as hybrid work models evolve.
Wipro’s policy aligns with similar moves by other IT companies. LTIMindtree has adopted a policy requiring employees to attend the office four days a week or face leave deductions. Similarly, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has implemented a policy linking variable pay to full office attendance, demanding a five-day presence. Infosys has also introduced a three-day office attendance rule, mirroring Wipro's new directive.
