A decline of 7.4 per cent is set to be recorded this year by the global semiconductor revenue, as compared to the 26.3 per cent growth in 2021. The PC chip sales too are all set to record a decline of 5.4 per cent, as per a report from Gartner.
A decline of 13.1 per cent is also projected in the PC shipments for this year. This comes after a steady growth period recorded in 2022-2021.
As compared to the 24.5 per cent growth recorded in 2021, a projection of 3.1 per cent growth is also a possibility for the smartphone Semiconductor revenue.
This weak period for the global semiconductor market is projected to continue till 2023, wherein a decline of 2.5 per cent is projected for the semiconductor revenue.
The rise in inflation, followed by the rising taxes, interest rates and the higher fuel cost are all attributed to a pressure built-up on the disposable consumer income. Hence, the purchasing pattern too has changed with regard to PCs and smartphones.
In consumer-related areas like smartphones and PCs, the demand and pricing have both gone down. At the same time, the inventories however are recovering. The continuous cloud infrastructure investment would help make the semiconductor industry more resilient, while its consumer space slows down for this year.
