Ramesh Agarwal, the father of Oyo Rooms founder Ritesh Agarwal, died this afternoon after falling from a high-rise in Haryana's Gurugram, according to police. At around 1 p.m., they received word from DLF security that a person had fallen from the 20th floor of DLF's The Crest society in Sector 54, Gurugram.
“He was taken to Paras Hospital for medical attention. A team, including SHO Sector 53, went to the scene of the incident. Ramesh Agarwal was identified as the fallen person during an inspection of the scene. He was pronounced dead at Paras Hospital,” according to the cops.
After an autopsy, his body was returned to his family.
“Police took the statement of the deceased's son Aashish Agarwal and an inquest report under section 174 CRPC was carried out. The Station House Officer, Sector-53 Police Station inspected the incident site. The postmortem was carried out in GH GGM and the body has been handed over,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Gurugram Virendra Vij.
In a statement, OYO Rooms founder Ritesh Agarwal said, “With a heavy heart, my family and I, would like to share that our guiding light and strength, my father, Shri Ramesh Agarwal passed away on 10 March. He lived a full life and inspired me and so many of us, every single day. His death is a tremendous loss for our family. My father's compassion and warmth saw us through our toughest times and carried us forward. His words will resonate deep in our hearts. We request everyone to respect our privacy in this time of grief.”
Ramesh Agarwal was recently spotted at the wedding of his 29-year-old entrepreneur son, Geetansha Sood. On 7 March, the couple hosted a high-profile wedding reception at the five-star Taj Palace hotel in Delhi.
The event made headlines because it was attended by one of the world's top tech entrepreneurs, a Japanese billionaire and SoftBank Group founder Masayoshi Son.
