Mercedes-Benz India on Tuesday (24 November) launched the much-anticipated Mercedes-AMG GT S in the country at Rs 2.40 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The AMG GT S, a more powerful version of the AMG GT, was launched in the presence of Bernd Schneider – the most successful DTM driver of all time with a total of 43 victories. The Mercedes-AMG GT S has come as a replacement for the SLS AMG.
This is the 5th AMG that has been launched in India this year and is developed completely in-house by the Mercedes AMG department. The car is also a replacement to the Mercedes Benz SLS AMG.
“Mercedes AMG has an unmatched presence in the performance segment in India with as many as ten unique AMG products. The AMG GT has everything Indian sports car lover to except from a sports car,” said Roloand Forger, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India.
Mercedes is the current leader in the luxury car segment, selling over 10,000 unit in the first 9 months. With the launch of the new car, Mercedes is aiming to capture the growing sports car segment in India where players like Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini are competing with each other.
The India-bound Mercedes Benz AMG GT S is powered by a 4.0-litre, V8 Biturbo engine churning out maximum power output of 510 hp@6000 rpm and maximum torque of 650 Nm, mated to a 7G-DCT automatic transmission which facilitate fast gear change. For safety of the driver, the car is equipped with 8 airbags.
The Mercedes Benz AMG GT S can go from 0-100km/hr in just 3.8 seconds with an electronic limit of 310 km/hr. Break disc are 40 per cent lighter than other cars which allows impressive handling.
The company also claims that the car can take up to 10,000 configurations to suit the taste of the customer.
This is the German carmaker's 14th launch in 2015 and the new AMG GT S will compete against the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo S, Audi R8 V10, Maserati GranTurismo and Jaguar F-type R coupe in our market.
