A 107-years 9 months and 7 days old woman, born on April 14, 1915, recently underwent a successful angioplasty procedure at SSB Heart and Multispecialty Hospital, Faridabad. The patient was admitted to the hospital on January 21, 2023, after suffering a massive heart attack.
Dr. Shyam Sundar Bansal, the founder and CMD of SSB Healthcare, along with his team acted swiftly, performing angiography in the cath lab on the same day as the patient's admission. The results revealed a 99 per cent blockage in the patient's proximal LAD, caused by a large clot. With the consent of her family, the team performed a life-saving angioplasty procedure, opening the blocked artery with a balloon and stent.
Following the procedure, the patient's condition stabilized, and she was kept under observation in the Coronary care unit for one day. The following day, she was discharged in a healthy condition. Dr. Bansal expressed his delight, stating, "This case serves as a testament to the fact that timely action and expert intervention can save even the oldest patients." This landmark success at SSB Hospital, Faridabad highlights the advancements in nonsurgical heart attack treatments and demonstrates that technology and expertise have advanced to the point where even elderly patients with complex anatomy can be successfully treated with non-surgical methods such as angioplasty and stenting. This success underscores the importance of seeking expert care and taking prompt action in the event of a heart attack.
The life-saving angioplasty is a triumph of medical innovation and a positive step forward in the fight against heart disease. It serves as a source of inspiration for both patients and medical professionals alike and reinforces the message that no age should be a barrier to emergency heart attack treatment.
