IndiGo on Thursday (03 December) announced it will operate additional flights on December 4 to accommodate passengers coming from Chennai through surface transport.
Additional flights include two daily flights from Bengaluru to Mumbai to Bengaluru, one flight from Bengaluru to Delhi, and one flight from Bengaluru to Hyderabad to Bengaluru.
In the wake of the current situation in Chennai due to severe rainfall, IndiGo has notified its passengers, families and other local partners that all flights operating to and fro Chennai have been canceled till December 5, 2015.
The budget-carrier is diligently monitoring the situation and is liaising with the local authorities, including the Airport Authority of India (AAI) to ensure all required protocols are followed for the resumption of flight operations.
It includes safety inspection of the runway, tarmac, taxiways, serviceability status of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) communication system and the required landing aids.
Passengers boarding at Bangalore with valid tickets from Chennai, whose flights had got cancelled, will be accepted without any additional charge or change fees or cancellation fees.
Additional flights will also enable IndiGo to transport food and other required items through cargo.
IndiGo staff is also ensuring the shipment of the essential items for the locals and employees based in Chennai via road.
To ensure IndiGo employees, affected families and other local partners get right vaccinations, the company will ship vaccinations for Typhoid, Hepatitis and Cholera and will be in given in complete consultation with the doctor, who will be stationed at Chennai airport.
IndiGo is liaising with its NGO’s to ensure there is zero shortage of relief material that is being planned to be shipped to Chennai.
