At Day 2 of the BW Hotelier Indian Hospitality Awards & Summit 2017, the morning sessions opened at a very enlightening note with Jasmita Banga, Business Development Manager, STR Global presenting on the theme - 'India vs China: How the numbers stack up,' at the Leela Ambience Gurugram on 24th March 2017.
Jasmita Banga began to speak with her presentation showcasing statistics of Asia Pacific Hotel Industry's performance and the supply and demand growth in FY-2010 to 2016. Taking 2008's economic crisis into account she made few sharp points over the Asia Pacific RevPAR Performance per sub-continent, indexed to 2010 and constant currency (USD).
Jasmita made a few observations on India-China's complex demographics and hospitality industry. She stated figures like India's Hotel Performance RevPAR growth quarterly FY 2010 - FY 2016, and that of mainland China; where for India the past 24 months have seen marginal continual growth in demand as compared to China; however the supply has been quiet slow.
She went on and put forth comparative charts of the big metro cities of both the countries India and China; and their respective contributions in the past six years to the national growth. From India - Mumbai, New Delhi & from China- Beijing & Shanghai were discussed. As a plus, she even discussed the market appeal of Hong Kong (read as Greater China) which despite having a Chinese mindset operates very differently.
Jasmita spoke about India & China Key Markets Compression Performance- which were basically the profitability data coming from room nights in occupancy of the four big cities. Along with that she also showcased the India & China TrevPAR, Dept. Exp., Undistributed expenditure and the GOPPAR percentage change for the financial year 2016 (preliminary data as a lot of it is undergoing collection).
