Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has launched a new scooter Cliq, on Monday (20 June), at an affordable price range of Rs 42,499. The new offering, priced almost Rs 14,000 lower than its flagship model Honda Activa, is aimed at boosting Honda’s presence in rural belt where Hero MotoCorp is the undisputed leader.
The new scooter will play a very strategic part for Honda to drive scooterisation in rural India where 100-110cc powered motorcycle is the first choice of buyers.
YS Guleria, Senior Vice President - Sales and Marketing of HMSI said, “Focused at up-country customers with a progressive mindset, Cliq is a perfect blend of Practicality, Versatility and value for money.”
He added that the Cliq breaks the price barrier of automatic transmission on two wheels and only Honda could challenge traditional preferences by bringing this kind of disruption in the 100-110cc segment.
Talking about the design and features of the scooter, Cliq can become a popular choice in rural India.
The scooter offers higher mileage and more legroom to the rider. The new model, being rolled out from the company’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan’s Alwar district, and is powered by the 110cc Honda BS-IV HET (Honda eco-technology) engine.
However, people of other states than Rajasthan will have to wait to get their hands on the scooter. Guleria said the Cliq will be first sold in Rajasthan and the national sales will begin in a phased manner.
HMSI has set a target to sell 6 million units of two-wheelers in FY2018. The number-two player in the Indian two-wheeler market is very strong in urban India and has been working on expanding its reach in rural India to achieve its target.
The kind of sales achieved by Cliq in the upcoming months will decide the scooter’s acceptability in the rural belt. Honda already has two scooters in the top-ten monthly two-wheeler selling list.
