Chairman Emeritus at DLF Group K P Singh on Thursday was felicitated with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his pioneering work in architecting the real-estate landscape of the country by EY.
Known widely for his pioneering vision and business sense that has revamped the geography of Gurgaon over the years. His contributions to the wider community and nation-building have won him numerous international and national awards including the Padma Bhushan in 2010.
The property leader joined DLF Group, a company started by his father-in-law, in 1961 after leaving the army. Singh is widely-known for building the DLF City in Gurgaon, the township located in the fringes of Delhi by acquiring the land from farmers.
Singh led DLF for five decades before stepping down from the position of chairman in 2020. Today, he’s the chairman emeritus of DLF while his son Rajiv Singh is currently the chairman of the Group.
In an interview recently, the real estate mogul said that India’s goal to be a USD 5 trillion economy needs commensurate infrastructure along with new cities.
"Government should acquire land and private sector should develop the land parcel. India needs new cities; Noida is a good example," Singh told CNBC-TV18 in an interview.
Singh lauded Modi-led central government in the interview but added that it would be wrong to say that the base for development wasn’t created by earlier government.
He added that sky was the limit when it came to development in India.
Last week, the real estate doyen had weighed in on the Adani-Hindenburg issue and rubbished the claim that Adani was given loans on instructions from higher-ups. He also opined that Adani Group must cut down on debt and “beef up” on capital.
