India has approximately 15,000 radiologists, which are primarily concentrated in top-tier cities. Sadly, life-threatening diseases pay no heed to such facts and the poor living in the remotest corners of the country suffer due to this huge deficiency in the number of healthcare professionals available and the facilities they have access to.
Aware of this gap in healthcare, Kalyan Sivasailam launched 5C Network, a healthtech platform that allows healthcare professionals to report from any location and at any time, enabling them to deliver accurate diagnostic reports in a significantly reduced timeframe.
“Our platform offers a solution by allowing radiologists to interpret medical images remotely, providing expert diagnoses to underserved regions without relocating. This approach improves accessibility, workflow efficiency, and quality of care, reducing the burden on local radiologists and offering cost-effective solutions for healthcare facilities,” says Sivasailam, the CEO and Co-founder of 5C Network.
As per Sivasailam, the company’s USP is that it is designed to complement radiologists rather than serving as an alternative. “The clinical excellence radiologists provide is at the core of our value proposition. By leveraging the synergy between artificial intelligence and human intelligence, i.e. radiologists, we ensure the delivery of accurate and timely diagnostic reports.”
AI & Healthcare
Commenting on where he sees the health industry headed with the increasing use of AI, Sivasailam says, “The applications of AI in healthcare are incredibly exciting. As probably the largest believers, practitioners, and users of AI in the Indian medical space, we are extremely long on AI in healthcare.” He believes that 5C Network is well positioned to “ride, and in fact, lead this wave.”
However, Sivasailam says, “At the same time, a word of caution: AI comes into the picture when there is a large amount of high-quality and contextualised data, and where the clinical/chemical/physiological processes in play are well understood. Running large-scale regressions on non-contextualized healthcare data will lead to correlations without causation.” This is something that AI practitioners, sales leaders, and decision-makers must understand and keep in mind, he adds.
The Road Ahead
5C Network currently has a presence across more than 300 cities. Among these, 60 per cent of the diagnostic establishments are located in Tier 2 cities and beyond. Looking forward, 5C Network is interested in launching its products internationally. The CEO said that the company has a target of doubling its customer base and expanding its AI-driven services.
