At a time when the only constant is ‘change’, normalising routine and sticking to it without evolving, may not always lead to the best outcome, emphasised Tech Mahindra CEO, C. P. Gurnani. Speaking at the BW Businessworld Dialogue on leadership, he said remaining optimistic and setting goals in relation to the current events are imperative.
Gurnani spoke of how he as a person “salutes leadership”. He said he believes that everyone is and can be a leader, which means that everyone matters and brings something to the table. Motivation should not be limited to one, but should rather be spread across the team, as success lies only in togetherness.
He broke down the traits of a leader, leading with creating an “environment where everyone can flourish,” followed by “efficient communication”. “Celebrating every win with everyone also adds a great deal of value. Lastly, the most important trait common in all leaders is that they all have a ‘goal’. Being ambitious and having a goal helps take things forward and actually materialises thoughts into actions,” Gurnani said.
Commitment to an idea or a concept is crucial, he said. Sharing his experience, Gurnani spoke of how it was important to “marry an individual, a team and work”. He talked of how despite change being “constant”, people could “write the change” and make an impact.
