The Meta-owned instant messaging service has introduced a new feature that allows users to contribute voice notes as status updates.
According to WaBetaInfo, an online WhatsApp feature tracking tool, the new functionality is currently accessible with the newest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.2.8 version, which is available on the Google Play Store.
Some Android beta testers can now exchange voice notes as status updates with the new functionality. The text status part contains the feature. WhatsApp will also give users more control over their voice recordings by allowing them to delete a recording before sharing it.
A voice note can be recorded for a maximum of 30 seconds. End-to-end encryption will be used for voice notes shared as status updates. Similarly to photographs and videos, voice notes sent via status expire after 24 hours. Users will also be able to erase voice notes that have been shared as status updates for everyone:
As previously stated, the feature is available to WhatsApp users who download the most recent beta from the Google Play Store. According to WaBetaInfo, it will be available to even more customers in the coming weeks.
In other developments, WhatsApp has announced the availability of its forward media with a caption function for Android users.
This feature will assist users in adding captions to media files and will also come in handy for rapidly searching old files by searching the keywords from the caption. A new view will appear at the bottom of the screen after forwarding a media with caption. This will tell them whether or not the feature is enabled. Furthermore, it includes a dismiss button that removes the description off the image before any user forwards the message if she chooses not to forward it.
