WhatsApp in its monthly report mentioned that it has banned over 2.2 million accounts between June 1 and June 30, 2022. The bans were carried out by the messaging platform through its abuse detection approach.
In June, WhatsAppp has revealed that it banned 2,210,000 Indian accounts. The messaging platform further revealed that it received 632 grievance reports in the month, which included 123 account support and 426 ban appeals.
“In addition to responding to and actioning on user complaints through the grievance channel, WhatsApp also deploys tools and resources to prevent harmful behavior on the platform. We are particularly focused on prevention because we believe it is much better to stop harmful activity from happening in the first place than to detect it after harm has occurred”, explained the report on its abuse detection approach.

These are received by WhatsApp in the form of user reports and blocks. “A team of analysts augments these systems to evaluate edge cases and help improve our effectiveness over time,” mentioned the report.
