Union Minister Chouhan met with Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora to discuss ways to improve the post-harvest management capacity in Assam. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss various schemes and programs of the Agriculture Ministry, including the creation of infrastructure such as dry storage, cold storage and processing units.
The Union Minister emphasised the need for convergence with schemes of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), PM Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) and Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises Scheme (PMFME) of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) to minimise post-harvest losses. He assured that the central government will closely monitor in cooperation with the state government to ensure that farmers in Assam do not face any difficulties. The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare will provide ample support for the development of Assam, he added.
Chouhan also highlighted the central government's policy to promote natural farming, seeing enough opportunities for its growth in Assam. The meeting aimed to strengthen the agriculture sector in the state and improve the standard of living for farmers.
