After a report of network breach at Uber, the company launched an investigation into the cybersecurity incident. Reports suggest that the ride-haling company’s network was breached, which prompted the company to shut internal communications and system.
According to media reports, a malicious actor was able to compromise an Uber employee’s Slack. The actor then proceeded to use the employee’s Slack to announce to other Uber employees that company had suffered a data breach.
Uber had to take its Slack system offline on Thursday afternoon after its employees got the message of breach from malicious actor.
In a statement, Slack said, "Uber is a valued customer, and we are here to help them if they need us”.
Slack told Reuters that the company has seen “no evidence of a vulnerability inherent to its platform”.
In the past, Uber experienced a large scale cyber incident in 2016 that exposed the personal data of 57 million people. This included riders and drivers. The company had to cough up USD 100,000 to remove the data from their servers.
