Republican Donald Trump becomes the 45th US president after a stunning victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton today. This day marks an astonishing new chapter in US history.
Donald Trump pulled off a shock US election win after channeling Brexit style forces to defeat establishment candidate Hillary Clinton. Clinton confidence to become America's first female President rapidly disappeared as results started coming in.
He has certainly defied all expectations from the very start of his presidential campaign more than a year ago. BW Businessworld uncovers the few factors that helped Trump win. Have a look:-
1. White Wave: Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, one after the other went to Trump. Even the rural voters turned out in high numbers, as the Americans who felt overlooked by the establishment and left behind by the coastal elite made their voices heard.
2. Teflon Donald: He is an outsider, he ran against the Democrats. He insulted war veteran John McCain, and Fox News presenter Megyn Kelly. Trump picked up fights big and small with everyone. He's outrageous and intimidating. He makes people's heads turns even in political debates.
3. Self-Made: Mr. Trump built a throne of skulls out of his Republican primary opponents. Like Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Chris Christie and Ben Carson, eventually bent knee. The holdouts, like Jeb Bush and Ohio Governor John Kasich, are now on the outside of their party looking in. He didn't even need any party insiders. In fact, may have won because he was willing to take a stand against them.
4. Unconventional Vibes: He ran the most unconventional political campaigns in the current times and it turned out he knew better than all the experts. He broke the internet on several occasions, got trolled and trended.
Even his disjointed, chaotic operations also made news. He vastly outspent by the Clinton campaign, during the Republican primaries. However, his closest advisors' advice worked well.
And now they'll do it from the White House!
