Toshiba Transmission and Distribution Systems India (TDDI) to increase in its manufacturing capacity to meet the global demand for power transmission and distribution equipment, driven by the expansion of renewable energy, the company said in statement on Thursday.
Over the next three years, TTDI will invest Rs 1,500 crore to expand its production of power and distribution transformers by approximately 1.5 times compared to FY2023.
Hiroshi Furuta, Chairperson and Managing Director of TTDI, said, “Toshiba is a world leader in the supply of T&D equipment. With India established as a hub for our T&D equipment manufacturing operations and export base, TTDI has successfully supplied India-made transformers to over 50 countries. Furthering our commitment to make-in-India and export-from-India, the new investment will improve operational efficiency, increase speed-to-market, and support in expanding our business in India and overseas.”
The company believes that this investment will enhance TTDI's assembly and testing lines for distribution and power transformers, which is aimed at Transmission Grids and Distribution Networks.
Notably, the upgraded testing capacity for power transformers will facilitate an increase in exports and meet the rising demand for 400kV/765kV transformers in India. The expansion will also include the establishment of facility for Cold Rolled Grain Oriented (CRGO) steel processing, enhancing vertical integration to reduce lead times and improve quality and safety.
TTDI also plans to build a new manufacturing facility for surge arresters, which will be operational by the second half of FY2024.
