“Dehi me dadami te” (As you give me, I give you in return.) This saying enshrined in our ancient scripture Yajur Veda is the inspiration behind Dabur India’s (DIL) unfailing commitment to ecological conservation and regeneration. As a responsible corporate citizen, we have always believed that it is our responsibility to help preserve our natural resources for current and future generations.
We understand that sustainability is central to economic growth. That’s the reason why we have been, over the past 138 years of our existence, working responsibly to take care of the planet.
From growing and sustainably cultivating medicinal herbs to engaging the consumers in reducing the negative impact of plastic pollution, from reducing energy consumption within our operations to conserving water both inside and outside our factory gates, our commitment to protecting and preserving the environment runs deep, covering all aspects of our business. Together, these actions demonstrate our strong commitments and contributions to a more sustainable world.
ESG Initiatives Galore
The last few years have seen Dabur take rapid strides on the ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) front and set ambitious targets for ourselves going forward. In 2021-22, Dabur became the first Indian consumer goods company to turn 100 per cent plastic waste neutral, having collected, processed and recycled around 27,000 MT of post-consumer plastic waste from all over India.
Not one to rest on our past laurels, this year we have targeted to become plastic waste positive by collecting, processing and recycling more plastic waste than the amount that we sell in our product packaging in a year. We have set ourselves the target of collecting 35,000 MT of post-consumer plastic waste and have already collected close to 20,000 MT till end-July 2022.
We have also inducted electric vehicles (EV) in our fleet for last-mile product distribution and intend to have a fleet of 100 EVs covering the length and breadth of the country by the end of 2022-23. This is one step forward in our mission to reduce our carbon footprint and become carbon neutral by 2040.
To preserve biodiversity, we aim to achieve net zero loss in biodiversity by 2030 and become water positive by 2030, through a series of programmes aimed at creating a positive water balance within our operations and in our communities.
Growing Herbs Sustainably
We also engage with several farmers and tribal communities across India for cultivation of medicinal plants and herbs, training them on scientific and sustainable cultivation of herbs. This exercise has on the one hand resulted in an increase in the population of these medicinal herbs, while supplementing the household income of these farmers on the other hand.
At Dabur, we understand that for companies to sustain their success, they must act in environmentally and socially responsible manner while growing the business economically. A strong environment strategy not only enhances the brand reputation but will also play a key role in building consumer loyalty. Every action at Dabur is a step towards a sustainable and healthy future.
