Samsung has reported a significant increase in pre-orders for its latest foldable smartphones in India. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 saw a 40 per cent jump in pre-orders compared to their predecessors within the first 24 hours of availability.
Pre-orders for the new devices opened on July 10 in India, coinciding with the global launch. The smartphones, along with Samsung's new wearables - the Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Buds 3 series - will go on sale starting July 24, 2024.
Raju Pullan, Senior Vice President of MX Business at Samsung India, commented on the strong response: "The 1.4x growth in pre-orders for the new foldable smartphones shows that Indian consumers are among the fastest adopters of new technology. Our new foldable smartphones, now in their sixth generation, open the next chapter of Galaxy AI and elevate the user experience to new heights."
Both the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are being manufactured at Samsung's Noida factory for the Indian market. The devices feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform and come with various AI-powered features, including enhanced productivity tools for the Z Fold 6 and new customization options for the Z Flip 6.
Pullan added, "The success of Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 will help us consolidate our premium segment leadership in India."
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is priced starting at Rs 164,999 for the 12GB+256GB variant, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 starts at Rs 109,999 for the same configuration.
Samsung is offering several pre-order incentives, including cashback offers, upgrade bonuses, and discounts on its new wearables. The company is also introducing a "Galaxy Z Assurance" program, offering two screen or parts replacements at a nominal fee.
The strong pre-order performance suggests growing consumer interest in foldable devices in India, potentially solidifying Samsung's position in the premium smartphone segment in the country where it is the dominant player only behind Apple which recently clocked $8 billion in revenues from India.
