At IFA Berlin 2024, Qualcomm unveiled the Snapdragon X Plus 8-core CPU, a new platform designed to make powerful computing experiences more affordable. This latest edition to the Snapdragon X series claims to give great performance and longer battery life, aimed at mainstream PCs and expanding the accessibility of AI-powered technology.
The newly introduced processor includes an 8-core Qualcomm Oryon CPU, which is intended to provide significant increases in both performance and economy. When compared to its competition, the new chip improves CPU performance by 61 per cent while consuming 179 per cent less power. This efficiency is predicted to greatly increase battery life, allowing for multi-day use in thin and light computers.
A 45 TOPS neural processing unit (NPU) is an inclusion in the processor, which offers to enhance on-device AI performance, it also enables capabilities like Qualcomm's Copilot+, which provide a more responsive AI experience across a broader spectrum of devices.
In terms of graphics, the processor has an integrated GPU that can support up to three external displays. This is especially important for those who require high-quality visuals for both business and recreational purposes.
The processor will be used in a variety of Copilot+ PCs, with prices likely to vary from USD 700 to USD 900. This pricing is intended to make high-performance computing more accessible to a larger audience, including both individuals and businesses.
Key PC OEMs including as Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, HP, Lenovo and Samsung Electronics will support the Snapdragon X Plus and include it into new PCs.
