Prime Minister Narendra Modi has disclosed assets exceeding Rs 3 crore while declaring his nomination from the Varanasi constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. The revelation came as part of his election affidavit filed on Tuesday, shedding light on his financial standing.
According to the affidavit, PM Modi's total assets amount to Rs 3.02 crore, with a significant portion stemming from a fixed deposit worth Rs 2.86 crore with the State Bank of India. Additionally, he holds Rs 52,920 in cash and maintains Rs 80,304 across two bank accounts in Gandhinagar and Varanasi.
Further details reveal PM Modi's investment of Rs 9.12 lakh in National Savings Certificates and ownership of four gold rings valued at Rs 2.68 lakh. Notably, his income surged from Rs 11.14 lakh in 2018-19 to Rs 23.56 lakh in 2022-23, illustrating a notable increase over the years.
In the education section of the affidavit, PM Modi specified his academic credentials, noting completion of a Bachelor of Arts from Delhi University in 1978 and a Master of Arts from Gujarat University in 1983. Moreover, he affirmed the absence of any pending criminal cases against him.
Expressing gratitude upon filing his nomination from the Varanasi constituency, PM Modi articulated, "I am overwhelmed and emotional. I did not even realise how 10 years passed under the shade of your affection. 'Aaj Maa Ganga ne mujhe god le liya hai' (today, Maa Ganga has adopted me)."
Varanasi, where PM Modi seeks a third term as MP, is poised for the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha election scheduled for 1 June. As the electoral fervour intensifies, the disclosure of PM Modi's assets adds a significant dimension to the political landscape, garnering attention and scrutiny alike.
