Ahead of the Union Budget 2024-25, PM Narendra Modi on Thursday interacted with economists at Niti Aayog in New Delhi to gather views and suggestions on issues about furthering growth. Besides economists and sectoral experts, the meeting was also attended by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Vice Chairman of Niti Aayog Suman Bery, and Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran. Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the first full budget of NDA 3.0 on 23 July during the monsoon session of the parliament.
PM Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Earlier today, interacted with eminent economists and heard their insightful views on issues pertaining to furthering growth.”
President Droupadi Murmu, while addressing the joint sitting of the parliament last month, indicated that the government would come out with historic measures to accelerate the pace of reforms and the budget would be an effective document of the government’s far-reaching policies.
Sitharaman has already concluded the discussions with various stakeholders, including the economists of the industry. The pre-budget consultations for the union budget 2024-25 started on 19 June 2024 and concluded on 5 July 2024. More than 120 invitees across ten stakeholder groups participated in the meetings.
In a series of pre-budget consultations, industry leaders from the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) presented a slew of recommendations aimed at bolstering economic growth, enhancing ease of doing business and fostering sustainable development.
