Not Considering Layoffs, Says TCS CHRO

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) chief human resources officer Milind Lakkad told PTI that the company was not looking at layoffs. Lakkad even said that the company is also looking to hire startup employees who have lost jobs due to layoffs.

The comments from the TCS CHRO come amidst a storm of layoffs being seen in the startup world and larger tech ecosystem globally.

"We don't do that (layoffs), we believe in grooming talent in the company...(there will be) no layoffs," he told PTI, when asked about layoffs or involuntary attrition.

Lakkad said that TCS was specifically looking for talent in user experience design, artificial intelligence, cloud and product.

In the interview, Lakkad said it is the company’s responsibility once a staff joins to make them productive and derive value.

The company has over 6 lakh people on its payroll and will be announcing hikes which will be similar to earlier years.

In 2023 so far, Amazon announced it would lay off 18,000 of its workforce, Salesforce said it would cut 10 per cent (~8,000 people) of its workforce and Google said it would lay off 12,000 employees. Microsoft, too, is looking at laying off 11,000 employees.
