Prime Minister launched the new space association ISpA virtually via video conferencing on Monday. The new association will be a space and satellite companies’ association. It will act as an independent agency in the field of space technology.
During the launch, PM Modi said that the government wants to open up the majority of sectors to the private players. Various industry experts have hailed the move. Countries like the USA have already allowed the opening of the sector to the private players. One shining example of success is Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
PM Modi also hinted that the new Spacecom policy is in the final stages of planning. He said, “This is the time for exponential, and not linear innovation. This is possible only when the government plays the role of an enabler, and not the handler. Today, the government is sharing its expertise, and providing launch pads for the private sector. The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is being opened for the private sector.”
The new agency aims to bring together various players in the field of space technology and make India ‘Aatmanirbhar’ in the field of technological expertise.
