NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies) President, Debjani Ghosh called Union Budget 2024 focused on sustainable development and growth needed in India to achieve the dream of becoming a mature economy.
Seeing it from a tech perspective, Ghosh appreciated the number of initiatives announced by the Finance Minister for internships that will be proven to be a generator of employment in the coming years.
Debjani Ghosh was invited as a Chief Guest for the 24th Convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee where she took up questions for the media along with Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee.
When there is great emphasis on skill development in the country, Ghosh counts on the pivotal role of internships and apprenticeships to skill the younger generation. In terms of learning, she said that no matter which institution one belongs to he/she always has to be ready to learn and unlearn.
Ghosh highlighted that there is no concept of expertise in the tech world, as it stops one from learning new concepts.
India is a country known for traditional skills like weaving clothes, refurbishing shoes, and catering animals. In this era of Artificial Intelligence, how population with traditional skills survive, Dr BVR Mohan Reddy, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee said that AI is innovated to empower the human ability and even people with traditional skills, AI is their most effective weapon for them. While answering this question, the accessibility of AI and ML was touched by both dignitaries.
IIT Roorkee is known for its stand-out innovations and search, Ghosh also said that the success of IIT can be measured by the work is being done by its alumni for the country and overall society.
While addressing the students at the 24th Convocation, Ghosh asked them to be different and embrace it openly.
