The Indian equity markets mostly traded on positive lines throughout the day on Tuesday, September 14 on the back of gains in Auto, IT and Media stocks. The BSE Sensex closed higher by 69.33 points at 58,247.09, and the Nifty-50 index closed up 24.70 points at 17,380.00.
In the 30-share pack Sensex, 16 scrips advanced and ended in the green, while 14 stocks turned red in the day's trade on Tuesday. Shares of IndusInd Bank jumped the most and bagged the top gainer after surging over four per cent, while those of Kotak Mahindra, Larsen, Bajaj Auto, and HCL Tech gained between 1-2 per cent each. On the flipside, Nestle, HUL, and UltraTech Cement ended in the red, down about a per cent each.
The broader markets however outperformed the benchmark indices as both BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices hit their fresh record highs in the intraday session on Tuesday. The BSE Midcap closed higher by 1.09 per cent, whereas the BSE Smallcap index gained 0.63 per cent.
Sector-wise in the markets today, the Media space saw tremendous momentum throughout the day with shares of Zee Entertainment posting a massive jump of 40 per cent in the intraday session, the stock price of the company made a high of Rs 270.90 against its previous close of Rs 186.85. The stock came into limelight ahead of the company's AGM scheduled later today wherein major decisions in the management are likely to take place.
The Technology, Auto and private banking space also saw good buying as the sectors gained nearly a per cent each in the day's trade. Shares of Yes Bank bagged the top gainer in the private banking space as the stock added over 12 per cent, while IndusInd Bank and IDFC First Bank gained more than four and two per cent, respectively.
Tracking the individuals, share price of Zomato declined sharply during the afternoon trade post the company's Co-founder, Gaurav Gupta, resigned from the company exactly after two months of the company entering the equity markets. The stock made a day's low of Rs 136.20 after surging to Rs 152.75 in the morning trade.
In the primary market, Ami Organics made a stellar start on the bourses as the stock listed at a 48 per cent premium against its issue price of Rs 610/share. The stock ended the day's session at Rs 935.00, up Rs 325 or 53.28 per cent. On the other hand, Vijaya Diagnostic listed at a premium of just two per cent against its issue price of Rs 531. However, the stock gained momentum later and closed at Rs 620, up 16 per cent.
Overall, 1078 shares advanced and 730 shares declined in the NSE today.
