Meru, the number three cab service provider by market share, on Tuesday (December 29) launched its new Ride-Share feature for commuters travelling in the same direction.
Currently, this service will be available in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR), which aims to address two issues impacting Delhi commuters like rising pollution and growing traffic congestion, the company said.
“Pollution and congestion are two major issues plaguing citizens of Delhi. We believe that the situation can be resolved through collaborative efforts by the government, private transport operators like Meru and citizens. As an environmentally responsible taxi operator, Meru endeavors to provide customers multiple transport options depending on their needs. By choosing to share your personal vehicle with the Carpool service or sharing a CNG fuel Meru Cab via Ride Share, citizens can now contribute to solving the city’s travel woes,” said Siddhartha Pahwa, group CEO of Meru Cabs.
Meru has a fleet of 1,500 cars ferrying in Delhi-NCR and this feature will be available in all its cabs.
The maximum time deviation would be around fifteen minutes and distance up to five kilometers, Siddhartha added.
With Meru Ride-Share feature commuters have an option of booking and sharing the cab when travelling in the same direction.
This Odd-Even formula in Delhi is an opportunity for the government, the private players and public to come together and help in making Delhi’s air much cleaner, Siddhartha said.
Meru already has Cab’s Carpool service where private car owners can offer a ride via Meru’s platform.
A fixed 30 per cent discount on the estimated trip fare will be applicable for the customers who choose the ride share option. Customers will be charged a fixed fare which will be communicated to them before booking. This fixed fare will be determined based on the actual fare estimate from the pickup location to the drop location.
Ride sharing feature will be applicable for bookings via the Meru Cabs App only and each rideshare trip can take a maximum of 2 bookings per ride with a maximum of 2 passengers per booking.
In case of any emergency, Meru’s ICE (in case of Emergency) feature on the app allows passengers to share details of his/her location to the registered emergency contacts to ensure customer safety.
All the Meru cabs are CNG-driven in Delhi and overall 65 per cent of its business comes via App bookings, the company added.
