Smartphone makers are working hard to launch a smartphone with an all-display design. iPhone-X is one such example which has minimal bezels and many Android smartphone brands just mimicked Apple’s design but they were not able to achieve the desired screen-to-body ratio.
Lenovo’s VP Chang Cheng had recently shared a sketch of upcoming all-screen smartphone Lenovo Z5 on Weibo. He wrote that “Lenovo Z5 will have a screen ratio of 95 percent, it will include four technological breakthroughs and 18 patented technologies”.
There are a lot of smartphones already in the market which their companies claim are bezel less, which they are not. Apple has successfully made a phone without a chin because they use flexible OLED display that turns internally and it pushes the connection ribbon at the rear of the phone.
Talking about Android handsets, they have a ribbon at the bottom of the display, which connects the processor for which at least a smaller chin is necessary.
Even if the chin is gone, the notch has to be there to house the front camera and other sensors.
Interestingly, Vivo’s Apex (concept phone) has a very thin chin but doesn’t have a notch. Vivo Apex comes with a pop-selfie camera which pops out when you are clicking pictures with the front camera, this has made Vivo achieve a design for smartphones with ultra-slim bezels.
On the other, Mi Mix 2S uses the chin to house the front camera, which helps Xiaomi to achieve a 91.3 percent screen ratio.
