Indian microblogging platform Koo was seen to be trending on Twitter in Brazil as it recorded more than one million downloads within 48 hours of launch in the South American nation.
The development is significant as Musk-headed Twitter remains embroiled in an intense changeover after sacking over 50 per cent of its employees and introducing big changes.
Koo’s multi-lingual proposition to micro-blogging has received a good response in India, where it has about clocked about 50 million downloads so far.
In a statement, Koo CEO and co-founder Aprameya Radhakrishna said, “It’s great to be the top app in both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in Brazil within 48 hours of being known in the country. This support is a testimony that we are solving a problem for native language speaking users not only in India, but across the world.”
The platform has onboarded noted Brazilian celebs including Babu Santana, Rosana Hermann and Claudia Leitte.
Koo in its statement said that the company is looking to position itself globally by making the app available to more countries and launching in multiple global languages.
On his Medium blog, Koo co-founder Mayank Bidawatka wrote: “Just 20 per cent of the world speaks English. 80 per cent of the world speaks a language native to its land. Most global products have a broken experience in languages. Nobody has as yet created a language-immersive experience for expressing and connecting with the world… We saw a gap that could be addressed in the whole world. This is the insight behind Koo.”
Within 48 hours of launch in Brazil, the platform has reportedly witnessed 2 million posts and 10 million likes by users in the country.
