Former Indian captain Virat Kohli emerged as the highest tax-paying sports personality in the country in the previous financial year 2024 (FY24). Kohli paid Rs 66 crore in taxes for the financial year, as per the data shared by the Fortune India Magazine. While Kohli claimed fifth spot among the Indian celebrities, it was Shah Rukh Khan who clinched the top spot.
As per the data, Actor Shah Rukh Khan paid around Rs 92 crore in taxes for FY24. Khan also happens to be the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in the Indian Premier League. The second-highest tax-payer among the celebrities was the south superstar Chandrasekaran Vijay, also known as Thalapathy in the Southern parts of the country. The actor paid Rs 80 crore in taxes.
Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan were in third and fourth spot, respectively, as Salman paid around Rs 75 crore in taxes, while Bachchan paid Rs 71 crore in taxes, as per the data.
As far as the cricketers are concerned, the ‘captain cool’ Mahendra Singh Dhoni (MSD) emerged as the second-highest taxpayer among the cricketers. The wicketkeeper-batsman who now plays only the IPL paid Rs 38 crore in taxes for FY24. Next up on the list was Sachin Tendulkar who became the third-highest tax-paying cricketer in the country for FY24. The highest run-getter in the history of cricket, Tendulkar paid Rs 28 crore in taxes.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly, fourth in the list of highest-taxpaying cricketers, paid Rs 23 crore, while the current all-rounder of team India, Hardik Pandya paid Rs 13 crore in taxes and took the fifth spot.
Actors Ajay Devgan and Ranbir Kapoor managed to secure the spots in top ten as they paid around Rs 42 crore and Rs 36 crore in taxes for FY24, respectively, as per the data shared by the Magazine.
