After having a glorious run at the box office, the movie Kabir Singh is becoming Shahid Kapoor and Kaira Advani’s biggest opener by earning Rs 20.21 crore on its first day. The Sunday collection raked to Rs 27.91 crore.
The fourth biggest Hindi opener at the box office this year, Kabir Singh is the only movie that was not released on a holiday.
#KabirSingh is breaking records at the box office, with promotions all over the metros, mass belt, tier-2, and tier-3 cities. After Padmavat, Kabir Singh became Shahid Kapoor’s highest grosser in just three days.
Taran Adarsh tweeted on 24 June 2019 about the movie’s weekend collection - Friday Rs 20.21 crore, Saturday Rs 22.71 crore, Sunday Rs 27.91 crore making a total of Rs 70.83 crore.
The movie is about a surgeon who starts consuming drugs and alcohol after he failed to marry the love of his life.
Shahid and Kiara personally took the responsibility to thank the audience for the overwhelming response to the movie.
Despite the great acting by Shahid Kapoor, the movie is highly criticized by the critics for its toxic masculinity. An India Today reviewer, Ananya Bhattacharya gave the movie 1.5 stars out of 5 because of the misogyny the movie Kabir Singh promotes.
Some other critics said that the film is the same as Arjun Reddy with the same story, same dialogues, same character but just Shahid Kapoor is trying hard to play-act the role of Vijay Deverakonda. Some critics also added that Shahid tries so hard to be Vijay Deverakonda that he loses the role of Kabir Singh in a few scenes. The critics also commented upon Kaira Advanis acting to be the worst part of the movie.
