Reliance Power, on Monday, said that it has secured a 500 MW battery storage contract through an e-reverse auction (eRA) conducted by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The auction, held on 11 September 2024, is part of SECI's initiative to boost energy storage capabilities across India.
The contract involves installing 1,000 MW of standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) units, awarded on a build-own-operate (BOO) model for "On Demand" usage. This was achieved through a tariff-based competitive bidding process.
Reliance Power won 500 MW of this capacity, marking a significant step into the renewable energy and storage sector, according to a company spokesperson. The company submitted a tariff bid of Rs 3.81999 lakh/MW/month, setting one of the lowest tariff benchmarks for BESS tenders at the 400 kV level in India.
The project delivery point is designated as the 400 kV Fatehgarh (ATL) substation in Rajasthan, with the full capacity scheduled for commissioning within 24 months of the Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) coming into effect.
Other than Reliance Power, JSW Neo Energy secured 500 MW with the lowest tariff of Rs 3.810 lakh per MW per month.
