Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon met Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow on Monday and extended support to the ambitious ‘Namami Gange’ project, aimed at cleaning and rejuvenating river Ganga by 2020.
“Uttar Pradesh may be given assistance by Israel on the Namami Gange Programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that has been started for rejuvenation of Ganga,” Carmon said, according to a PTI report.
He also expressed Israel’s desire to cooperate with the state in various other sectors such as agriculture, irrigation, horticulture, energy, science and technology, and smart cities. On the other hand, Adityanath expressed his concern over depleting ground water levels that has led to ‘dark zones’ in the state and wished for Israel’s technical’s expertise to tackle the crisis.
Israel is currently extending its support to the state government in the field of water conservation in Bundelkhand.
Chairing a high-level meeting of this mission on Tuesday, Modi said the first priority of the Namaami Gange mission should be to prevent fresh generation of pollutants in the river.
India is Israel’s 10th largest trading partner. Total defence trade between the two countries is worth more than $9 billion. The bilateral relations between two nations largely revolve around economy, defence and tourism.
