Intel Bids Adieu To Its Pentium and Celeron Brands

Intel is retiring its iconic Pentium® and Celeron® in 2023. The company intends to continue its processing journey under a new brand of Intel® Processor.

The chip company will look at Intel Processor to serve as the brand name for multiple processor families, helping to simplify the product purchase experience for consumers. 

The newer brand will have a streamlined architecture as the company looks to double down on its flagship brands Intel® Core™, Intel® Evo™ and Intel vPro®. The phase out of Pentium and Celeron streamlines Intel's brand offerings across PC segments which will enable and enhance its customer communication on each product’s value proposition, while simplifying the purchasing experience for customers. 

In a statement, Josh Newman, Intel vice president and interim general manager of Mobile Client Platforms said, “Intel is committed to driving innovation to benefit users, and our entry-level processor families have been crucial for raising the PC standard across all price points. The new Intel Processor branding will simplify our offerings so users can focus on choosing the right processor for their needs.”

The first Pentium flagship chip was introduced by Intel in 1993 and multiple generations have started their PC journey with these very processors globally. Meanwhile, the first Celeron chip debuted in 1998.

Intel has been using Core branding for its flagship processors since 2006.

The company has clarified that the brand change will not affect the company’s current product offerings or its roadmap.
