Intel on Monday confirmed that its Alder Lake BIOS source code was leaked by a third party. The company’s proprietary UEFI code was leaked by a third party.
Confirming the leak, Intel said that it does not believe that the leak will expose any security vulnerabilities.
The BIOS/UEFI can be used by bad actors to probe for a potential backdoor and security vulnerabilities.
In its statement, Intel has said that it is reaching out its customers and the security researcher community to keep them in the loop.
The chip-maker has asked security researcher community to identify vulnerabilities in the source code, which is covered under the company’s bug bounty program within the Project Circuit Breaker campaign. This big bounty program awards between USD 500 to USD 1,00,000 per bug, depending on the bug severity.
A popular security researcher Mark Ermolov already seems to have found a security problem.
