Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan lauded Indian IT industry’s efforts towards setting up small centres beyond the boundaries of big cities like Bengaluru.
Speaking at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022, Gopalakrishnan emphasised that Indian IT sector has been doing a good job in reaching out to talent beyond Bengaluru in Karnataka by establishing smaller centres, allowing employees to take up work remotely while being closer to home.
Gopalkrishnan observed that a number of companies had opened up branches in other cities across Karnataka including Mysore, Mangalore, Hubli and Belgaum. “The industry will grow secularly because of the investment in digitisation and technology will continue to grow over next several years,” he noted.
Earlier in November, Wipro Chairman Rishad Premji also spoke on similar lines when he said that Indian IT industry needs to reach out to the talent wherever it is available instead of forcing them to migrate to larger cities. “Today, the conversation is all about finding and accessing the best talent to build new models for relevance in the digital economy,” Premji had said.
During his address at the Bengaluru Tech Summit, the Infosys co-founder also said that he expects the IT industry to grow at 8-10 per cent over the present base of USD 220 billion in revenues.
He said that developments in the areas of AI/ML, Cloud, IoT, Web3, blockchain and NFTs would mean that tech would continue to grow. “The march of technology continues,” he added.
Gopalkrishnan said that the model of public digital infrastructure and private innovation (private entrepreneurship) on top of that is uniquely Indian. He added that this model is now being recognised globally as the model for the future, especially for developing countries.
