According to a latest report, Indians spend 30 minutes a day on the internet to consume memes exclusively. The report further reveals that 50 per cent of internet users believe that memes are a great way to relieve stress.
According to a report by Redseer Strategy Consultants, Indians on the internet spend 30 minutes on an average in a day consuming memes. Over the last year, 80 per cent of internet users in the country have increased meme consumption.
"Memes have been around for a long time, however, they gained popularity with the advent of Facebook in India when media and the internet became more accessible. Viewing and sharing ‘memes’ has become the new way for consumers to interact online with each other when it comes to current affairs, politics, Bollywood, or something relatable. This has led to the growing popularity of memes," said Kyle Fernandes, CEO and co-founder, MemeChat.
According to the Redseer report, a good number of internet users believe that memes are a great way to relieve stress. In fact, the report found that 50 per cent of internet users expect their meme consumption to increase. Moreover, 90 per cent of meme consumers are open to creating memes themselves, indicating large latent demand for meme creation apps.
The numbers are interesting because this means that meme creation apps will gain more traction in the coming times.
MemeChat, memes-based social networking app, says that average consumption of meme content on its platform is around 50-60 mins per day. The platform currently creates 80,000-1,00,000 memes daily on its app and around 1,20,000 memes are shared.
“Memes are now at the peak of the entertainment sector. To keep up with this rising demand, meme creation platforms are crowding the market, indicating that monumental growth is on the cards for this industry,” said the report.
