The Indian Navy and BEML have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing the indigenous production of critical marine equipment and systems. This move will boost indigenisation in defence manufacturing, the defence ministry said in a statement.
This strategic partnership will facilitate the indigenous design, development, testing and support of critical marine engineering systems for the Indian Navy, the statement added.
It is a key step aligned with the Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) initiative, aimed at enhancing self-reliance in defence production and reducing dependence on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).
The ministry said that the MoU underscores the Indian Navy's commitment to fostering homegrown innovation in defence technology and strengthening national security through collaboration with leading Indian industry partners.
The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral K Srinivas, ACOM(D&R) of the Indian Navy and Ajit Kumar Srivastav, Director of Defence at BEML, a Defence and Heavy Engineering manufacturer under the Ministry of Defence.
