While outlining a series of futuristic goals aimed at shaping India’s growth and achieving the target of making the country a developed nation by 2047, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is committed to becoming a global leader in semiconductor production. The PM also mentioned the growth of the manufacturing ecosystem in the country.
During his address from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, the PM highlighted that the country has the potential to fulfil the dream of developing ‘Made in India’ chips for every piece of equipment.
“There was a time when we used to import mobile phones but today we have created a manufacturing ecosystem in the country and India has emerged as a big manufacturing hub,” the PM mentioned during his address. He stated that India has now started to export mobile phones.
Highlighting the need for enhanced focus on semiconductor production, the PM stated that semiconductors, modern technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) are closely linked to our future. He said, “Why can't every piece of equipment have a 'Made in India" chip? Our country has the potential of fulfilling this dream. We have the talent and the means to provide the world with end-to-end solutions.”
He further added, “India has started working on its Semiconductor Mission. We are moving ahead rapidly with 5G, and towards further boosting our production capacity. And, I assure you we won't stop here. We are working on mission mode for the development of 6G networks.”
PM Modi envisioned transforming India into a global manufacturing hub by leveraging its vast resources and skilled workforce. He called for state governments to establish clear policies to attract investments and offer assurances of good governance, during his address.
