Huawei recently launched its new mid-range smartphone Nova 3 on 26 July in India. This smartphone was already launched in China a few weeks ago.

The main highlight of Huawei Nova 3 is the dual-front camera of 24-megapixels+2-megapixels; both with f/2.0 aperture and 3D face recognition with GPU Turbo for fast gaming experience. The handset runs on EMUI 8.2 based on top of Android 8.1 Oreo and powered by octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC which is coupled with 6GB RAM.

With a price tag of Rs 34,999 in India, Nova 3 has attracted the pool of mid-range successful running smartphone segment with competitors like OnePlus 6, Honor 10 and Asus ZenFone 5z.

Software, Processor and Storage

Huawei Nova 3 runs on EMUI 8.2 based on top of Android 8.1 Oreo and powered by octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC which is coupled with 6GB RAM. The smartphone has two variants of 64GB and 128GB for internal storage which are further expandable up to 256GB via dedicated microSD slot.

OnePlus 6 runs on OxygenOS based on Android 8.1 Oreo offering the users a near stock Android experience without much bloatware. The handset is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB/8GB of RAM. OnePlus 6 comes in two RAM+Storage configurations which include 6GB+64GB and 8GB+128GB.

Honor 10 runs on EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and powered by an Octa-core Huawei Kirin 970 coupled with Mali G72 GPU and 6GB RAM. The handset comes with two storage options of 64GB and 128GB.

Asus ZenFone 5z runs on ZenUI 5.0 which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo and powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor which is coupled with 6GB/8GB RAM.  The handset has three RAM+Storage configuration- 6GB+64GB, 6GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 2TB through a MicroSD card.

Display and camera

Huawei Nova 3 features 6.3-inch full-HD+ (1080x2340 pixels) panel along with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. For the security purpose, a fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear side alongside the camera and the screen has face unlock system for unlocking the handset. The smartphone measures 157 x 73.7 x 7.3 mm and weighs 166 g.

The handset sports vertical dual rear camera of 24megapixels+16megapixels camera with f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, and face detection, HDR, and panorama. The main highlight of the handset is the dual-front camera of 24-megapixels+2-megapixels; both with f/2.0 aperture and 3D face recognition. Apart from 3D Animoji, the camera has a slow-motion feature with 480 frames per second. Both the camera in the front supports AI portrait mode and Bokeh mode.

OnePlus 6 comes with huge 6.28-inches FHD+ (2280x1080) optic AMOLED display and 19:9 aspect ratio along with layer of protection of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. For the security purpose, a fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear side below the camera and the screen has face unlock system for unlocking the handset. OnePlus6 measures 155.7 x 75.4 x 7.75mm and weighs 177 grams.

OnePlus 6 sports a vertically aligned dual camera setup at the rear which includes 16-megapixels+20-megapixels sensors with dual LED flash. On the front, there is a 16-megapixels selfie camera with 1.0 μm pixels, f/2.0 aperture, EIS, Portrait mode will also arrive soon after a software update. It can also record videos in super slow-motion with 1080p at 240fps and 720p at 480fps.

Honor 10 features a 5.84-inch FHD+ (2280x1080) TFT LCD display with 19:9 aspect ratios. For the security purpose there is an ultrasonic under glass fingerprint sensor mounted on the front which unlocks the device. It measures 149.6 x 71.2 x 7.7mm and weighs 153 grams.

It features a horizontally aligned dual-rear camera setup with 16-megapixel+24-megapixel sensors, LED flash, autofocus, f/1.8 aperture and AI mode, having 22 modes to recognize different scenarios in real-time. On the front is also an AI-powered 24-megapixel selfie snapper with f/2.0 aperture and studio lighting effects.

Asus ZenFone 5z features a 6.2-inches FHD+ (2246x1080) Super IPS+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, 90 per cent screen-to-body ratio and protection layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. For the security purpose, a fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear side alongside the camera and the screen has face unlock system for unlocking the handset. Asus ZenFone 5z measures 153 X 75.65 X 7.7mm and weighs 165 grams.   

The smartphone sports a dual camera setup at the rear which includes primary 12-megapixels (f/1.8 aperture) sensor and 8-megapixels (f/2.2 aperture) secondary sensor with LED flash and OIS. It also has AI based scene detection, real-time Portrait, and beautification. The rear camera is also capable of shooting 4K videos at 60fps. For the selfie the front camera has 8-megapixels with f/2.0 aperture.

Price and Availability

Huawei Nova 3 launch price is set at Rs. 34,999 for 6GB+128GB storage and is available in Iris Purple and Black colours variants.

OnePlus 6 price in India starts from Rs 35,999 for 6GB RAM and Rs 39,999 for 8GB RAM. The handset is available in three colour options- Mirror Black, Midnight Black, and Silk White.

Honor 10 is set at the Priced of Rs 32,999 in midnight black and phantom blue.

Asus ZenFone is available at Rs 29,999 for 6GB+64GB storage, Rs 32,999 for 6GB+128GB storage and at Rs 36,999 for 8GB+256GB internal storage in Meteor Silver and Midnight Blue.
