Govt Appoints Ravi Agrawal As Chairman, CBDT

The Appointments Committee of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions has approved the appointment of Ravi Agrawal, IRS, Member of Central Board of Direct Taxes as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes with effect from 01 July 2024 up to the date of his superannuation namely 30 September 2024, and thereafter his re-appointment on contract basis upto 30 June 2025, on usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed central government officers, in relaxation of the recruitment rules.

Appointments Committee in its notification said, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Ravi Agrawal, IRS (IT:88028), Member, Central Board of Direct Taxes as Chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes with effect from 01.07.2024 upto the date of his superannuation i.e. 30.09.2024 and thereafter his re-appointment on contract basis upto 30.06.2025, on usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers, in relaxation of the Recruitment Rules.”

Earlier, Union Government gave a nine-month extension in service to Nitin Gupta, Incumbent Chairman, CBDT on contract basis on 30 September 2023, the day of his scheduled retirement.
The government order had said that the re-appointment of Gupta as the CBDT Chairman on a contract basis, will be effective from 1 October 2023 till 30 June 2024, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, in relaxation of the recruitment rules, on usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed central government officers.
